EMFD to Hold Recruitment Open House on Sunday, April 27, 2025
Exciting opportunity for residents 18+ who want to help make a difference in the community

A message to East Meadow residents aged 18 and older: If you’re interested in serving your community and making a real difference, we have an exciting opportunity for you. Learn more at our Recruitment Open House on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the firehouses listed below.
- Station #1, 346 East Meadow Avenue, near Franklin Avenue, East Meadow
- Station #3, 350 North Newbridge Road and Salisbury Park Drive, Levittown
The event is being coordinated with RecruitNY, a joint effort of the Firefighters Association of the State of New York, and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, organizations dedicated to addressing the critical issue of the declining number of volunteers in East Meadow and across the state. This decline has strained our emergency services, potentially affecting response times, and the level of care we provide for our community.
Aside from the personal satisfaction of helping your community, there are additional benefits, including local property tax exemptions and state-income-tax advantages, scholarships for full- and part-time students attending Nassau Community College, free training and health checkups, and a length-of-service award program, which provides a monthly stipend based on years of volunteer service. Many men and women in volunteer fire and emergency medical services use their training and experience as a stepping stone to professional, paid careers in fire/rescue, law enforcement, and emergency medicine.
