Volunteers and staff from General Needs, a Long Island-based nonprofit dedicated to helping homeless veterans, recently joined with Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and county officials for a veteran’s drive-through event in Eisenhower Park. General Needs distributed 225 new pairs of sneakers, 225 three-packs of new socks and 225 military branch-branded caps to local veterans in need, making a significant difference in the lives of these veterans. Also attending the event and pitching in were Nassau County Legislators Samantha Goetz, Seth Koslow, Patrick Mullaney and Rose Marie Walker, as well as Ralph Esposito, Director of the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency.

“They served with honor and distinction, but now many veterans find themselves in dire financial straits or even homeless, said Lonnie Sherman, who, with his wife, Susan, co-founded General Needs. “We are grateful to Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman for his ongoing support in helping address the needs of homeless and indigent veterans.”
