Trooper Shot On South State Parkway Released From Hospital
Trooper Thomas Mascia was shot while on duty Wednesday night on the Southern State Parkway, state police said.
EAST MEADOW, NY — The state trooper who was injured this week in a shooting on the Southern State Parkway has been discharged from an area hospital.
Trooper Thomas Mascia, 27, was shot while on patrol late Wednesday night when he approached a vehicle on the side of the highway by Exit 17. "They started firing rounds at him," State Police Major Stephen Udice said on Thursday.
Troopers lined Nassau University Medical Center on Friday afternoon to salute and applaud Mascia, who was wheeled out of the hospital with a heavily bandaged right knee. State police said he underwent surgery on a quadricep.

No arrests have been made, and state police issued a $5,000 reward, while COPSHOT offered $10,000 for information that ultimately leads to a conviction.
