LI Chiropractor Pleads Guilty To Health Care Fraud

Officials say Peter Adamczak bilked an insurance company out of nearly $1 million by submitting claims for services that never happened.

EAST MEADOW, NY — A Long Island chiropractor pleaded guilty today to defrauding a health insurance company out of nearly $1 million.

Peter Adamczak, 65, of Huntington, is a licensed chiropractor with an office in East Meadow. He billed an insurance company for more than $1 million in acupuncture services that were never performed.

“Adamczak bilked an insurance company for acupuncture services that he never performed, brazenly lying in order to line his own pockets with money that he did not earn,” said United States Attorney Breon Peace. “As a health care professional, Adamczak was required to uphold the highest standards of honesty and integrity, and failed both miserably. This office will continue to hold healthcare providers accountable for fraud and abuse.”

According to prosecutors, from 2016 to 2020, Adamczak submitted more than $1 million in false claims for reimbursement to an insurance company. He was not licensed to perform acupuncture, but said that the services were done by an acupuncturist who leased office space from him.

However, neither the acupuncturist or Adamczak performed any services. In total, officials say Adamczak billed the company for $994,838.16 in reimbursements to beneficiaries, who in turn gave the money to Adamczak.
