East Meadow Organization Joining Search for Avonte Oquendo

An East Meadow community group is joining the efforts to bring a missing autistic child from Rego Park back home. Pocket Change to Make a Change, created by residents Michael Gordon, Kathleen Bracker and Matthew Dosil in 2011 to "make sure every person has the materials they need after a natural disaster," is volunteering their time for a different cause this weekend. Assembly Speaker's Bill Demands Supermarket Health Violations be Posted Online

New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has submitted a bill requiring the State Department of Agriculture and Markets to post all food inspection violations, a move in part driven by a pattern of failed health inspection by Kosher baker Zomick's that was first reported by Patch. Levittown Schools to Ban Electronic Cigarettes

The Levittown School District's ban on cigarettes on school grounds will soon include electronic cigarettes. Superintendent Dr. James Grossane said at Wednesday's board of education meeting that "certain folks" have been using e-cigarettes on school grounds and even in school. Click here for more.

Barkfest Draws Hundreds

The first annual Nassau Barkfest Sunday drew hundreds of dogs to the Eisenhower dog park in East Meadow. More than 500 canines walked the parade route and competed in a pet costume contest. Click here for more.
