NYC Man Going Through Cars Had Drugs On Him: Nassau Police

Police say the man was also driving a stolen car when he was arrested.

EAST MEADOW, NY — A Brooklyn man was arrested after police say he was caught breaking into cars in Westbury.

According to police, Nassau County police officers were called to Lennox Avenue in Westbury at 1:40 a.m. for a report of a man going through a parked car. As the officers were canvassing the area, police say they saw Elijah Augustin, 28, of Brooklyn, get into a white 2009 Toyota Matrix and drive away.

The officers found the car a short time alter and determined it was stolen, police said. Augustin was found a short distance away and was arrested without incident.

During his arrest, police say they recovered 75 bags of a substance believed to be crack-cocaine. Augustin also had an active Nassau County arrest warrant for a previous petty larceny.

Augustin is charged with third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle and reckless driving. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Dec. 11 and released without bail.
