Two Westbury Students Named Top Boys Soccer Players

Newsday Highlights Seniors Edwin Escobar and Jonathan Osorio

WESTBURY, NEW YORK (November 2023) — Two Westbury High School fall athletes received exceptional acclaim for their talents. Boys varsity soccer senior forwards Edwin Escobar and Jonathan Osorio were named to Newsday’s Top 100 Boys Soccer Players for 2023.

“Our boys soccer program has become a point of pride for all of Westbury High School,” said Westbury School District Superintendent Dr. Tahira DuPree Chase. “Edwin Escobar, Jonathan Osorio and the entire team have consistently dedicated themselves on the field and in the classroom. Between classes, homework, practices and games, their success is commendable and deserves to be acknowledged.”

Edwin and Jonathan received this honor from Newsday due to their incredible 2022 seasons and projections that they would continue to enhance their skills this fall. Last year, Edwin scored six goals and six assists, and Jonathan tallied seven goals and four assists

“Edwin truly has a knack for scoring goals in clutch moments,” said Westbury High School boys varsity soccer coach Chris Valentini. “At the same time, Jonathan excels at scoring and creating plays for others.”

Both players were a part of Westbury’s 2021 Nassau County Championship season.
