U.S. Marines Unload Turkeys, Last Hope, Support Groups

This past week, there have been a number of announcements on our community boards, which you can access by clicking here.

These announcements keep you informed on what's happening in East Meadow. Here's a look at some important information from the past week.

• U.S. Marines Who Served in Iraq & Afghanistan Unload Turkeys as Long Island Cares and Island Harvest Respond to Unprecedented Requests for Emergency Assistance: The Marines say they hope their efforts will lead others to help Island Harvest and Long Island Cares meet the needs of the hungry in this difficult economic period.
• Calhoun Sports Boosters Announce October Athletes of the Month: Kayla Cappuzzo has been a starter on the Varsity Soccer team since her freshman year. She has been our team captain since her junior year. Harry Davis had a great season for the Calhoun Boys Varsity Soccer Team and was a big part of the success that the team experienced.
• Last Hope: Last Hope Animal Rescue has helped me overcome many obstacles that has effected my life. My biggest struggle was the passing of my dad. My dad was my best friend for the past 16 years of my life.
  
• Homeless Hanging Out on Hempstead Turnpike: I hear they may try to get the approval for Sonic but in the mean time, that building is an eye sore and now you have homeless hanging out there.
  
• Prostate Cancer Support Groups: Integrated Medical Foundation offers FREE Prostate Cancer Support groups. The groups provide an excellent opportunity for men (and their partners, if desired) to share their experiences and to help them cope with diagnosis and treatment.
  
• East Meadow Walmart Supports Meals-on-Wheels: EAC Network's Meals-On-Wheels program received a much needed grant of $3,000 from Walmart's East Meadow location. EAC Network delivers nutritious meals to homebound elderly residents of Westbury, New Cassel, Valley Stream and Carle Place.
  
• Please Support a Local Teacher's Students with Disabilities: Hi all! I am a Commack resident and graduate presently working as a special education teacher in the Bronx. I teach children with multiple and severe disabilities who are growing up in high poverty areas that we couldn't even imagine raising our children in.
