WESTBURY, NEW YORK (DECEMBER 2023) — A Westbury High School student is being recognized for his exceptional academic promise. Andrew W. Lee is being honored by the National Merit Scholarship Program Corporation for his outstanding performance on the qualifying test for entry to the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program.

"There is only a small cohort of students nationwide that receive the honor of being selected as a Commended Student in the National Merit Scholarship Program,” said Westbury High School Principal David Zimbler. “I am so proud of Andrew for being a part of this prestigious group and proudly representing our community and school."

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual competition in which participating students take the PSAT/NMSQT examination, and, depending on their score, can be designated with various honors. According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, only approximately 2.6% of the 1.3 million students that enter the National Merit Scholarship Program each year are recognized as Commended Students. These students are sent letters of commendation, and some have the opportunity to become eligible for scholarships from affiliated corporate sponsors.
