A fire broke out Tuesday morning in the attic of an Oakland Avenue home in Cedarhurst. An alarm was called in at 10:27 a.m. for the house fire off of Peninsula Boulevard, according to John McHugh, first assistant chief of the . It took 45 firefighters with seven pieces of apparatus about a half hour to have the fire under control. A company was doing air conditioning work in the home at the time of the blaze, but the fire is being considered accidental, McHugh said. The workers and occupants of the home got out safely. Two firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion and were treated at the scene. Along with LCFD, the Hewlett, Meadowmere Park, Woodmere and Inwood fire departments responded to the blaze. Three ambulances were on the scene due to the heat. Valley Stream provided an ambulance. "I'd like to thank everyone for their assistance," McHugh said.
