Broadway to be Repaved in Hewlett-Woodmere

Nassau County has started the repaving of Broadway in the Hewlett and Woodmere shopping districts.

Legislator Howard Kopel (R-Lawrence) told the South Shore Standard that the county considers Broadway’s pavement to be deteriorated. The project will fix the street from the Hewlett triangle to Woodmere Boulevard. It was commenced after “money became available from money saved from another project,” Kopel told the Standard.

Construction will take place between 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., and no parking will be allowed on the street during those times. Work will take about three weeks, subject to weather, according to Nassau County Department of Public Works Spokesperson Mike Martino. Drivers are advised to use other routes to avoid the construction.

A repaving project for Peninsula Boulevard will go out to bid on Tuesday, according to Kopel.

But many residents and business owners — as the Standard reports — questioned why the county chose to do work on Broadway before other roads, such as Peninsula Boulevard, which was supposed to see a curb-to-curb repaving last year after were installed.
