Fight At Nassau Deli Leads To Woman Injured By Knife: Police

Jose Velasquez faces a charge of second-degree assault.

VALLEY STREAM, NY — A Valley Stream man was arrested early Monday for an assault at a shop, police said.

Jose Velasquez, 38, was waving a knife which led to a woman getting injured, police said.

Police were called to J&F Jimenez Deli on Rockaway Avenue at 12:30 a.m. for a disturbance. A 31-year-old woman was attempted to break-up a fight with Velasquez, when she suffered a laceration to the left hand, police said.

He was placed in custody without incident. The victim refused medical attention.

No other injuries were reported.

Velasquez is charged with second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.
