Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Nassau Stabbing: Police

Officers found a man lying on a lawn with a sheet wrapped around his arm, which was covered in blood, police say.

INWOOD, NY — An Inwood man was charged with attempted murder after he was accused of stabbing another man, Nassau police said.

Officers responded to an Inwood home for reports of an assault around 8:25 p.m. Sunday, police said. Officers found a 34-year-old man lying on the front lawn with a sheet wrapped around his arm, which was covered in blood, police said.

Jose Antonio Cruz, 50, was found in the backyard of the home and arrested without incident, police said.

The men argued earlier in the day, and the altercation later escalated, and Cruz stabbed the man, police said. The man suffered a severe cut and was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment, police said. He is in stable condition, police said.

Cruz was charged with second-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault. He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court, at 99 Main St., Hempstead.
