Here are the top stories in Five Towns today:

  1. Nassau County's outbreak of Legionnaires' disease made national news. Out of all the patients, aged 35 to 96, one had died, two remained hospitalized and seven had been released from the hospital, CBS News reported. The cause of the outbreak, in one mile on the Levittown/Wantagh border, is still being investigated. (U.S. News & World Report)
  2. Alex Costello kicks off Patch's meet the candidate series by talking to current County Executive Laura Curran about why she believes she should be reelected. Curran says climate change, issues facing middle-class families and updating Nassau's infrastructure are the most pressing concerns. (Patch)
  3. Jerry Barmash interviews Nassau County's 3rd Legislative District's incumbent candidate Carrie Solages, who is running for a fifth term. The district covers the Nassau border with Queens, includes parts of South Valley Stream, Valley Stream, North Valley Stream, Elmont and South Floral Park. (Patch)
  4. Patch also talks to Lisa Daniels, who is running for a seat in the 7th district, covering Rockville Centre, Oceanside, East Rockaway, Hewlett, Cedarhurst and Lawrence in the Town of Hempstead. Democrat Daniels faces the incumbent Republican Howard Kopel. (Patch)
