A second man has been charged for last month's mall shooting in Valley Stream. A former Town of Hempstead official has been sentenced for larceny. And Nassau County is trying to help veterans with mental health counseling.

- Jerry Barmash reports that service on the Long Beach Long Island Rail Road branch was restored Friday after a car was removed from the tracks. The stuck car was at the Rocklyn Avenue grade crossing and caused the termination of trains eastbound at Valley Stream. (Patch)
- Patch has the details on a shooting at Green Acres Mall. On Aug. 2, shots were fired into the Macy's store. Jaheim White, 20, of Queens, was charged for the crime on Sept. 7, and now Javon Badal, also of Queens and 20, has also been located and charged. No one was injured in the shooting. (Patch)
- Jeff Bessen has the story of Hewlett Harbor's John Novello, former deputy commissioner for the Town of Hempstead Buildings Department being sentenced this week to five years probation for stealing more than $59,000 from the Cedarhurst Republican Committee. He also has to pay restitution. (LI Herald)
- Alex Costello writes that Nassau County is launching a new program to help veterans get in contact with licensed social workers specializing in helping them. The Veteran Services Agency (VSA) will be hiring two licensed social workers that will be on-site in the agency's East Meadow office. (Patch)
