$248K From Federal Bill To Go Towards Central Queens Non-Profits
A Forest Hills senior center and nearby facility for people with disabilities were both included in a trillion-dollar federal spending bill.
FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — Two non-profits in Central Queens are among those that will likely receive millions of dollars from the federal government, Congresswoman Grace Meng announced this week.
Selfhelp Community Services, which provides emotional wellness activities and nutritious resources alike at its senior centers in Forest Hills, was granted $15,000 from a trillion-dollar government spending package passed in the House this week.
Nearby in Kew Gardens Hills, Ohel Kissena Boulevard Residence Rehabilitation Project, a residential home serving people with developmental disabilities, received $233,000 from the package to upgrade its facilities.

"This money will go a long way toward making Queens healthier, safer, stronger, and even more resilient," said Meng, who secured nearly $10 million in total for projects in Queens from the spending package.
"As we continue recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, we must build back stronger and ensure we have the resources that our communities need and deserve," she added.

In addition to the allocation for Selfhelp and Ohel Kissena's services, Meng secured millions more dollars for immigrant-led non-profits and local hospitals alike.
The money comes from a twelve-bill spending package, which is expected to pass the Senate and be signed into law my President Biden soon.
