QUEENS, NY — A transformer explosion at Arthur Ashe Stadium, one of the largest tennis stadiums in the world, left three people injured Monday, police and fire officials said.

The blaze erupted at the tennis center in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park near Meridian Road about 1:40 p.m., according to the FDNY.

Three people were hurt with "major burns" following the explosion, fire officials said.

There do not appear to have been any events scheduled at the time of the explosion, according to the venue's website, but later this month Arthur Ashe Stadium will host the 2022 U.S. Open.
