After Near-Closure, Forest Hills Stadium Celebrates 100th Performance

Forest Hills Stadium was all-but-abandoned when it came under new promotion in 2013. Since then it's put on 100 shows — and counting.

QUEENS, NY — When Coheed and Cambria, a New York-based rock band, took to the Forest Hills Stadium stage last Saturday, they were the 100th group to do so since the venue's reopening.

The stadium, once graced by legends like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan, was all-but-abandoned from the 1980s until 2013, at which point the venue came under new promotion and high-profile acts slowly started to return.

Saturday marked the venue's 100th show since its reopening — a feat that the stadium said it credits to the "hard work, compassion and dedication" of its employees and staff.

The shows, though, wouldn't be possible without fans, too.

"To you — the fans — thanks for showing up and believing in us," Forest Hills Stadium posted online. "We wouldn't have gotten here without you. On to the next 100."

Forest Hills Stadium itself has also undergone changes since 2013, most recently renaming its gates in honor of a late Queens NYPD chief and going carbon neutral.

The 100th performance comes amid a packed summer lineup at Forest Hills Stadium, as artists flock to the outdoor venue, some for their first performances since the pandemic.

Still on the calendar this summer is an Aug. 4 Norah Jones show with a special performance by Regina Spektor followed by a hip-hop festival dubbed Rock the Bells on Aug. 6.
