QUEENS, NY — Dozens of firefighters battled a blaze in the basement of a Kew Garden Hills synagogue Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.

The fire started about 3:15 p.m. at 139-19 72nd Road, a building on the corner of 141st Street, the FDNY said.

All told, 60 firefighters rushed to the synagogue and got the blaze under control shortly before 4 p.m., according to fire officials.

A fire department spokesperson said no one was hurt in the blaze and its cause is still being investigated.

The FDNY identified the building as a "church" on Twitter, but property records show it is owned by a Jewish congregation. It also is listed as a synagogue on several websites.

According to hours listed on Google Maps and a website detailing prayer times, there wasn't a prayer service going on at the time of the fire.
