JetBlue Systems Restored After Hours of Flight Delays

Update, Thursday, 8 p.m.: “All systems have been restored and all jetblue.com functionality is now available, including flight status tracking,” JetBlue writes on its website.

QUEENS, NY — JetBlue flights out of JFK and LaGuardia airports, and other airports across the country, were experiencing widespread delays Thursday afternoon because of “intermittent network issues due to a Verizon data center power outage,” the New York-based airline told Patch in a statement.

“Flights are still departing at this time but customers traveling may experience delays or cancelations,” the JetBlue statement said. “Customers traveling today will receive current flight status information from crewmembers in our airports.”

The airline’s website was down for a few hours Thursday afternoon, but was back up by 2:50 p.m. The airline encouraged passengers to check in online.

By 5:30 p.m., JetBlue said its systems were “slowly coming back up,” but hadn’t been completely restored.

Passengers at JFK and LaGuardia reported they’d been standing in lines and sitting on planes for more than an hour with no word when their flights would depart.

The system failure also delayed JetBlue flights across the country. (Photos below.)

At some airports, passengers said they were allowed to board their flights by being checked in manually. “We’re having delays, but still operating flights,“ JetBlue told one customer on Twitter just before 3 p.m.

Patch has contacted JetBlue for additional details on flight delays and information for stranded passengers.
