A school bus burst into flames Tuesday afternoon on the Grand Central Parkway near the exit ramp to Interstate 678, according to the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).
No one was injured in the fire, an FDNY spokesman told Patch. The flames had been extinguished by 5:30 p.m.
Photos and videos posted to social media (embedded below) showed a massive cloud of black smoke billowing up from the roadway.
Traffic appeared to be completely halted behind the burning bus, which had been heading west.
An Instagram user named Kyle Velasquez wrote that the bus exploded after it hit a motorcycle.
“Motorcyclist got hit by a bus,” he wrote. ”Bike is under the bus.. Bus exploded.. Everybody got out fine.. With the motorcyclist now, he says he’s okay.. Going to stay with him.. Thank god everybody is ok.”
