Church To Host Shakespeare Karaoke In Forest Hills This Weekend

Try your hand at reciting one of the Bard's famous monologues at "Shakespeare-aoke" on June 30.

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS -- Wannabe actors and Shakespeare fans, now is your chance to make one of the Bard's many famous monologues come alive on stage in a medieval-style karaoke session.

The Gingerbread Players of St. Luke's Church in Forest Hills will host "Shakespeare-aoke" on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Participants can recite their favorite iconic monologue or pair up with a friend to perform a short scene by the English playwrite, organizers said.

Those who want to partake in the cabaret-style evening can sign up on the Gingerbread Players website or email info@gingerbreadplayers.org to reserve their stage time for a $10 fee. A few slots will be open for walk-in performances, but signing up is recommended to ensure your spot in the limelight.

Just submit your top three choices in monologues under four minutes or scenes under five minutes, and organizers will let you know ahead of time which ones you'll get to do.

The church at 85 Greenway South will open its doors for the event at 7 p.m. Shakespeare lovers can snag a seat for just $5 at the door, which includes complimentary Elizabethan-era refreshments.
