Duck Sauce Slaying Suspect Found Dead Of Apparent Suicide: DA, Report

Glenn Hirsch's lawyer told The New York Daily News that the accused killer shot himself in his house weeks after posting bail.

QUEENS, NY — The man charged with gunning down a Forest Hills deliveryman over a duck sauce dispute was found dead at his Queens home Friday in an apparent suicide, according to the Queens District Attorney's office and a report.

After missing a court appearance Friday, Glenn Hirsch, 51, was found dead at home, where he's been on house arrest since posting bail in June, police officials told The New York Daily News.

The official told the Daily News that an autopsy will determine Hirsch's cause of death, but his lawyer told the outlet that the accused killer shot himself.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz released a statement Friday seemingly confirming Hirsch's death.

"The loss of a human life is always tragic. Obviously, we would have preferred to try Mr. Glenn Hirsch for the calculated murder of Mr. Zhiwen Yan in a court of law, but this is no longer an option," she said.

"We once again express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Zhiwen Yan, who continue to grieve his tragic and senseless loss."

Hirsch was arrested June 2 and hit with murder charges — to which he pleaded not guilty — in the deadly shooting of Zhiwen Yan, 45, a longtime delivery worker at the Great Wall restaurant in Forest Hills.

The 51-year-old stands accused of fatally shooting Yan in the chest on April 30 while the two were stopped at a red light — the final act of aggression in a months-long campaign of harassment against Great Wall employees over a duck sauce dispute, prosecutors said.

Hirsch's wife was also arrested in early June and hit with criminal weapons charges after police found eight guns and ammunition in her Queens home, multiple outlets reported.

In the wake of his tragic death, Yan has been remembered by co-workers, family and neighbors as a caring community member and loving father.
