Elderly Groundskeeper Dies After Fight At Forest Park Golf Course

The 79-year-old man broke his pelvis after a group of teens riding bikes on the golf course shoved him to the ground, police said.

FOREST PARK, QUEENS — An elderly groundskeeper at the Forest Park Golf Course died after a group of teens riding bikes through the course shoved him to the ground, according to police and news reports.

Whitestone resident William Hinchey, 79, was on the job the afternoon of Sept. 8 when he spotted a group of teenage boys riding bicycles on the green, according to police and NBC4 New York.

The teens were near the 15th hole trying to steal a flag when Hinchey approached them and asked them to leave, the New York Daily News reported.

They started arguing, and the teens shoved Hinchey to the ground, causing him to break bones in his pelvis, police said in a news release.

EMS brought Hinchey to Jamaica Hospital, then transferred him to North Shore University Medical Center, where he died the afternoon of Sept. 11, according to police.

The medical examiner's office has not yet determined the exact cause of his death.
