Elderly Man Found Dead In Rego Park Subway Tracks: Report, Police

REGO PARK, QUEENS — An elderly man was found dead in a Rego Park subway track on Saturday night, according to police and reports.

On Saturday Aug. 28, around 11:30 p.m., police found Amado Cruz, 65, dead in an R-train subway track at the 63rd Drive - Rego Park subway station, NYPD records show.

Cruz had been walking above the tracks about 800 feet into the tunnel when he fell to his death, according to the New York Daily News.

At the time of his death, trains weren't running on the northbound R-train tracks where Cruz fell, the Daily News reported.

EMS pronounced him dead at the scene, police said, after they worked to save his life for about a half hour, the Daily News reported.

Police told the news site on Sunday that it wasn't clear if Cruz's death was accidental or a suicide.

As of Monday, police told Patch that the medical examiner is still working to determine his cause of death.
