FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — A fundraiser to display historic and now-demolished Forest Hills buildings in a neighborhood mural was launched over the weekend.

Well-known Forest Hills resident Michael Perlman launched the GoFundMe page, aiming to collect $6,500 to fund the mural on a large brick wall alongside The Bagel Spot at 101-01 Queens Blvd. The project’s total cost is $10,000.

“We will preserve the architect’s artistic vision at first,” Perlman told Patch.

The New York City-based artist Gigi Chen is expected to paint the mural. Her work has been featured on walls in Virginia, Georgia, and Long Island.

Perlman said members of the Rego-Forest Preservation Council and the Four Borough Neighborhood Preservation Alliance will make the final decision on which demolished and current landmarks will be featured in the mural.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the fundraiser had collected over $450.

The groups have partnered with Noble Signs to install sign panels, as well as the power washing service Cleanfellas, Inc. to strip layers of paint and restore the brick wall.
