Forest Hills Pizza Slices Named Among Best In New York City
Two Queens Boulevard pizzerias selling pies by the slice are among the city's best slice shops, Eater's food critic says.

QUEENS, NY — New Yorkers looking for a quintessential city snack — pizza by the slice — don't have to look farther than Queens Boulevard for some of the city's best offerings, one critic says.
Gloria Pizza, a family-owned pizzeria in the heart of Forest Hills, and La Rondine Pizza, another Queens Boulevard joint on the edge of Kew Gardens, are serving up among the city's best pizza slices, according to Eater food critic Robert Sietsema.
The pizzerias were both named among Sietsema's 18 favorite pizzerias that sell pies by the slice.

"Though the city is awash in pizza styles," he writes, "the neighborhood slice, unpretentious yet innovative, remains New York City’s default style."
Sietsema broke down each pizzeria on the list by which slice it does best — a grandma slice in the case of Gloria Pizza, and a plain cheese slice at La Rondine Pizza.

While the number of slices at Gloria's is "greater than most," Sietsema most recommends the grandma slice, which he says "tastes like something you might have acquired at a street fair with its topping of tomato sauce and a fresh slice of tomato."
As for La Rondine, stick with cheese, he advises, calling the slice "one of the best plain cheese slices in Queens" for its thin crust, good cheese and a sauce "not afraid to advertise itself with a pleasant herbiness."
Gloria Pizza is located in Forest Hills on Queens Boulevard and 71st Road, while La Rondine Pizza is farther south on the boulevard near Kew Gardens Road.
