Forest Hills Beauty Salon Closes After Three Decades In Business
Like many other beauty-focused businesses in the city, the salon struggled to retain customers after the pandemic broke out.

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS – A Forest Hills favorite in the beauty salon industry is closing its doors on Sunday amid a customer slowdown.
Micciche Salon, located at the corner of Ascan Avenue and Austin Street, was initially opened in the late 1980s by Lorenzo Micciche, and then moved to a bigger space in the early 1990s.
“He started there with one cutting chair in a makeup shop with a mirror and, before he knew it, the place was a salon,” Jason Micciche, Lorenzo’s son and co-owner of the salon, told Patch.

Like many other beauty-focused businesses in the city, the salon struggled to retain customers after the pandemic broke out. The COVID-19 era restrictions required the salon to limit the number of customers and staff in the space.
Even when the city lifted all its restrictions, customers were not coming in as much as they used to. Micciche noticed more customers were coloring their hair at home and stretching their visits to the salon, making it harder to make ends meet.

“I’m not a crystal ball, but I don't know if that’s the way the industry is going,” said Micciche. “It’s more of a treat to get your hair done instead of something that's happening every month or every six weeks.”
Micciche Salon is selling all its products and equipment, including hair dyes, mirrors, and chairs.
