Human Waste Floods Queens Neighborhood When It Rains: Report

Heavy storms left Middle Village feet deep in waste, which locals say was littered with "actual turds," the New York Post reported.

MIDDLE VILLAGE, QUEENS -- Residents of Middle Village are tired of the city's crap - literally.

The Queens neighborhood becomes flooded with human waste every time it gets a heavy rainfall, thanks to aging sewer lines the city has put off fixing for decades, the New York Post reported.

Residents told The Post last week's powerful storm left them up to three feet deep in their own waste, where "actual turds" could be seen floating amid the sludge.

“Somebody came in to help us at some point and he went home and put his feet in alcohol,” Louisa Gennari, 61, told the newspaper. “It was disgusting.”

The problem dates back to a flash flood in August 2007 that left Middle Village residents with tens of thousands of dollars in damages, according to The Post.

After the flood, the city's Department of Environmental Protection promised to fix the neighborhood's storm drains with a $22 million project, which they waited eight years to break ground on. The city put the project on hold last November and has since claimed another $8 million is needed to finish the job.
