Man, 20, Indicted In Death Of Forest Park Golf Course Worker: DA

A grand jury in Queens indicted the 20-year-old on homicide and assault charges after he threw an old man on the ground, causing his death.

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — A 20-year-old was indicted on homicide and assault charges on Friday in connection to a case last year when he reportedly shoved an elderly golf course employee to the ground, after which the man died, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced.

Last Sept., David Mangaran of Pennsylvania, was among a group of teens riding bikes on the Forest Park Golf Course, when William Hinchey, a 79-year-old groundskeeper, came over in a golf cart and told the teens to leave. Moments later, Mangaran allegedly grabbed Hinchey from the cart, dragged him across the pavement, and threw him to the ground, the DA said.

Hinchey fractured a bone in his leg, and then died three days later as a result of the attack, records show.

“Physical violence is never the appropriate response during a confrontation. The victim was a senior citizen, whose life was tragically cut short due to the alleged actions of this defendant," said Katz, adding that Mangaran "will be brought to justice in our courts.”

Mangaran is expected to return to court on Dec. 21 and faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.
