Man Found Dead After Fire in Forest Park

Police say victim was likely a homeless man killed after clothes caught fire.

An unidentified man was found dead in Forest Park on Sunday by a local resident walking his dog near Park Lane South, police said.

The victim was likely killed after his clothes caught fire while he was trying to keep warm, according to information from the police, who believe he was homeless.

Officers responded to a call of a fire in the park at 11:40 a.m. Sunday morning, and discovered the victim and the dog-owner near the intersection of Freedom Drive and Park Lane South.

Emergency Medical Technicians arrived at the scene shortly thereafter and declared the victim dead.

Police said they believe the victim was living in the park.

The incident is still under investigation, and police said they have yet to make contact with anyone claiming to be the victim's family.
