Metro Pharmacy To Close Forest Hills, Kew Gardens Drugstores
The beloved 40-year-old pharmacy is shuttering its two locations, both on Metropolitan Avenue in Queens.

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — Metropolitan Pharmacy is closing its doors for good on Monday.
The 40-year-old business is shuttering its two locations, both on Metropolitan Avenue, after low reimbursements from drug and insurance companies gave owner Ira Lisogorsky little money to pay his bills.
Customers prized the sibling Forest Hills and Kew Garden pharmacies for their personal service, Lisogorsky said.

If the pharmacies didn't have what a customer wanted, he picked it up for them. He made sure customers had their medications on time, notwithstanding any insurance issues.
Now, he is transferring prescriptions to pharmacy behemoth CVS.

"No matter how busy, Ira would peek out from behind the counter to greet you," longtime customer Rosemary Sherman told the New York Post.
Metro Pharmacy, located at 103-11 Metropolitan Ave. in Forest Hills, and Metropolitan Pharmacy, located at 11607 Metropolitan Ave. in Kew Gardens, close Monday evening.
"If you can't pay the bills, what are you going to do?" Lisogorsky told Patch.
