Mexican-Style Bakery Opens In Forest Hills

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — A new bakery selling Mexican pastries opened its doors on Metropolitan Avenue over the weekend.

Wendy Salazar, 21, opened Wendy’s Bakery & Sweets on 102-10 Metropolitan Avenue on Dec. 17, offering free samples of tres leches, cakes, and cookies for the grand opening.

“My father always had a dream of opening his own bakery,” Salazar told Patch. “We decided to open up a bakery together.”

Her father, Diego Salazar, immigrated to the U.S. from Puebla, Mexico. He taught his daughter how to bake, and decided to open up the bakery under her name.

The store offers pastries such as strawberry shortcakes, as well as Mexican classics like conchas and cuernitos.
