Queens Boulevard Car Crash: Skateboarder In Critical Condition

The boulevard was nicknamed "The Boulevard of Death" due to the high number of pedestrian deaths.

FOREST HILL, QUEENS — A 20-year-old man was struck by an SUV while crossing Queens Boulevard near 71st Street around 8:50 p.m. on Thursday night.

The skater was crossing the street against the light on his skateboard when the SUV hit him. He was transferred to Jamaica Hospital, and his condition was listed as critical.

The 68-year-old driver remained on the scene. No arrests were made.

The boulevard was nicknamed “The Boulevard of Death” after more than 70 pedestrians died in accidents from 1993 to 2001.

The Department of Transportation has been working on a $100 million redesign of the entire 7-mile boulevard, according to DNAinfo.
