The New York Sports Club briefly closed its Forest Hills location this weekend after sewage flooded the gym. It has since reopened.

FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — The New York Sports Club briefly closed its Austin Street location this weekend after sewage flooded the gym.
The Forest Hills gym posted a sign on its door Sunday saying it would be closed until further notice due to a sewage flood, members reported.
It reopened by 1 p.m. Monday, according to the gym's general manager, Michael Fisher.

Members of the gym at 69-47 Austin St. will have "passport privileges" to attend other New York Sports Club locations until July 31, according to Fisher.
Fisher attributed the sewage backup to a gym member flushing something that "should not have been flushed," he wrote in an email.

This is the second time this month that NYSC's Austin Street gym closed due to a sewage leak. Some claim it's part of a pattern of unsanitary conditions.
"This gym is closed again for plumbing issues. It shouldn't even be listed as a viable option for people looking for a gym," one gym-goer said Monday on Yelp.
"The Austin Street location has had too many issues...from cleanliness, to air conditioning problems, to a few times the gym couldn't open due to leaks/floods," another wrote.
Town Sports International, the company that owns New York Sports Club, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
