Sign Language For Babies Taught At Queens YMCA
The goal is to increase communication between parents and children from newborns to age 18 months.
FOREST HILLS, QUEENS – Sign language for babies is being taught at a Queens YMCA.
The Central Queens Y at 67-09 108th St. said it's enlisting experts from My Baby Fingers to give lessons to increase communication between parents and children from newborns to age 18 months.
"Central Queens Y and 'My Baby Fingers' will give parents the skills and knowledge they need to communicate with their pre-verbal, hearing babies, while enhancing child-parent bonding," the Central Queens Y stated.

The 13 classes start Sept. 18 and cost $338 for members or $390 for non-members.
The sessions will teach sign language through songs and play. My Baby Fingers says the benefits of its classes include "enhancing motivation to speak, increasing IQ, improving vocabulary and literacy skills, decreasing frustration, refining motor coordination and spatial reasoning skills."
