18-Year-Old Arrested In Roosevelt Field Slashing: Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — A Williston Park man who is accused of slashing a woman in Roosevelt Field Mall was arrested and charged, Nassau County Police said.

Verlain Beauge, 18, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon on Tuesday, police said.

On Monday, at about 4:20 p.m., a 20-year-old woman was walking on the mall's second floor when a man struck her with a knife.

The man then fled the scene. The woman suffered a large laceration to her left cheek and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.

Police told News 12 the attack was targeted.

Beauge was previously arrested on Jan. 23 and released without bail and charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, and arrested on March 3 and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.

He will be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
