20 Yrs. To Life For Shooting Into Long Island Apt. Building: Nassau DA

Corey Crisp was convicted on January 26.

MINEOLA, NY — An alleged Bloods gang member from Hempstead was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for shooting an apartment building in January 2023, prosecutors said.

Corey Crisp, 44, was convicted after a jury trial on January 26 on charges that included first-degree attempted assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment.

"Corey Crisp endangered multiple residents of a Hempstead apartment building, including a baby in a stroller, when he chased down a man and traded gunfire with him in a hallway," Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said. "This defendant has a lengthy violent criminal past dating back decades. He placed innocent people in harm’s way with total disregard. Wednesday’s sentence will make our communities safer."

On Jan. 6, 2023, Crisp was in an apartment building on Fulton Avenue in Hempstead, where his girlfriend lived. At approximately 6 p.m., Crisp observed another man, the victim, pull a small knife from his sweatshirt and extend the blade, Donnelly said.

The victim ran and Crisp began chasing after him. Once in the lobby, Crisp and the victim pulled out semi-automatic handguns and Crisp fired into a crowded hallway, the DA's office said.

The bullet struck a wall, and continued past the victim and more than a dozen people, including a baby in a stroller. Another bullet struck a wall at the far end of the hallway before Crisp fled the scene.

"Wednesday’s sentence will make our communities safer," Donnelly said.
