70-Year-Old Man Charged With Public Lewdness: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Sept. 13.

Sept. 7

  • Officers arrested a 41-year-old woman for leaving her 4-year-old child alone and unattended inside an Adelphi University building lobby for an extended period of time. She was charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child.
  • A man went through a vehicle parked in a Kensington Road driveway and activated the residence’s garage door opener. He fled the scene when confronted by the homeowner.
  • Officers investigated a report of a skimming device being inserted into an ATM at Walgreens.
  • A driver was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after crashing into another vehicle in Parking Field 7S.
  • A landscaping company was issued an appearance ticket for operating in the village without a permit.

  • Firefighters and police responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be ongoing construction.
  • A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed.
  • A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and a suspended registration.
  • A victim’s identity was used without permission to open an unauthorized bank account.
  • A company was charged with the operation of an overlength truck and trailer on Rockaway Avenue.

Sept. 9

  • Officers arrested a 43-year-old man on Stewart Avenue for DWI and excessive speed.
  • A man was seen in the rear yard of an Adams Street residence.
  • A package was reported stolen from a Cambridge Avenue residence.
  • A window to a vehicle parked on Arthur Street was smashed and property was stolen from within.
  • A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and improper license plates.
  • A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license, speeding, and operating a cell phone.
  • A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed in a school zone.
  • A victim’s personal information was reportedly used to open multiple fraudulent bank accounts.

  • Firefighters and police responded to Garden City Plaza for a fire alarm activated an industrial cleaning system.
  • Three youths were cited for trespassing on residential properties and ringing doorbells. They were released to a parent.

Sept. 11

  • Officers were assigned to traffic and safety details for the Garden City Fire Department 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony.
  • Officers responded to a traffic light malfunction at Nassau Boulevard and Cambridge Avenue.
  • A driver on Clinch Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and unregistered operation.

Sept. 12

  • Officers arrested a 70-year-old man for committing a lewd act in Parking Field 9W. He was charged with exposure of a person and public lewdness.
  • Officers investigated a report of a resident’s identity being used to file for unauthorized unemployment benefits.
  • A garbage receptacle on 7th Street was damaged by unknown means.
  • Firefighters responded to a local business and rescued a person who was stuck in an elevator.
  • Officers responded to Clinton Road for a large fallen tree limb blocking traffic.

Sept. 13

  • Officers arrested a 53-year-old motorcyclist on Meadow Street for unlawful fleeing from a police officer, reckless driving, 18 license suspensions and driving with an altered/defective muffler.
  • Firefighters and police responded to a residence for an alarm where firefighters detected carbon monoxide in the basement. The building was safeguarded and ventilated.
  • A check placed in the mail in an apartment building lobby was stolen, altered and cashed for $9,800.
  • A person’s identity was stolen and used to open two fraudulent credit card accounts.
  • An unauthorized bank account was opened using the identity of a victim and then used to make subsequent purchases.
  • A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and speeding in a school zone.
  • A driver on Clinton Road was charged with reckless driving and excessive speed.
