Adelphi Students Shot With Air Gun From Car: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Oct. 11.
Oct. 5
- Three people were seen on surveillance cameras removing property from a vehicle parked on East Drive.
- A person’s identity was stolen and used to open an unauthorized bank account.
- A driver on New Hyde Park Road was charged with unlicensed operation and improper license plates.
- Firefighters and police responded to St. Joseph’s School for a carbon monoxide alarm activation. Firefighters determined air levels were safe.
- A motorcyclist on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and unregistered motorcycle.
- Firefighters and police responded to a residence for a fire alarm. Firefighters determined it was activated by excess heat from a dryer.
- Firefighters and police responded to a residence for sparking wires. Firefighters located the issue and rendered the area safe.

- A Garden City business ordered two chairs online and paid half the bill and were contracted to pay the second half of the bill upon delivery of the merchandise. The items were never delivered.
- Officers responded to the Cathedral Avenue crossing for malfunctioning railroad gates.
- Firefighters and police responded to Poplar Street for a reported gas leak. Firefighters detected the leak outside a residence and rendered the area safe by turning off the main valve.
- A 38-year-old man was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident that occurred on Nassau Boulevard on Oct. 4. He was also charged with driving with a suspended license.
Oct. 7
- As a result of a domestic incident investigation, officers arrested a 32-year-old male for assaulting another family member, causing multiple head injuries and preventing the family member from opening the door for responding officers. He was charged with assault and unlawful imprisonment.
- Items were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Cambridge Avenue.
- A vehicle parked on Arthur Street was rummaged through by a man, with no loss reported.
- Officers investigated a report of a physical altercation between two people on a NICE bus traveling on Clinton Road.
- A driver on Homestead Avenue was arrested for second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation (seven license suspensions) and passing a stopped school bus.
- A truck driver on Washington Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and operating a vehicle with an oil leak.
- As a result of a narcotics investigation on Franklin Avenue, Garden City Detectives arrested a 34-year-old man for selling alleged cocaine. He was also found to be in possession of additional amounts of alleged cocaine. He was charged with criminal sale of a narcotic substance and two counts of criminal possession of a control substance.
- Firefighters and police responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be burnt food.

- Property was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on 3rd Street.
- Firefighters and police responded to a residence for an electrical outlet fire. Firefighters located the issue and rendered the area safe.
- Officers and Water Department personnel responded to a residence for a water leak in the basement caused by a damaged water line. The water supply to the residence was turned off until the line could be repaired.
Oct. 9
- Officers are investigating a reckless endangerment incident at Adelphi University where a subject shot air gun pellets from a vehicle striking three students. No injuries were reported.
- Large scratches and gouges were found on a vehicle parked in Parking Field 6E.
- Officers investigated a report of a damaged door window to a detached garage on 3rd Street.
- Firefighters and police responded to Kildare Road for a downed power line. Firefighters determined it was a cable wire and not dangerous.
- A driver was arrested on Clinton Road for second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation due to 16 open license suspensions and operating a cell phone while driving. He was also found to have two outstanding traffic warrants.
Oct. 10
- Officers investigated a two-vehicle crash on Washington Avenue and Stewart Avenue where one of the vehicles left the scene. An officer followed the trail of damage left by the vehicle and located it on Magnolia Avenue where the 20-year-old driver was arrested for DWI and leaving the scene of an accident.
- Police are investigating a trespass incident at a 7th Street apartment building.
- Officers responded to Clinton Road and Commercial Avenue for a traffic light malfunction.
- A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended registration and unregistered vehicle.
Oct. 11
- A company was charged with the operation of a truck on Clinton Road while 23,000 pounds overweight and for not possessing a highway use tax permit.
- A driver on Brook Street was charged with driving with a suspended license and passing a Stop sign.
- Police and Water Department personnel responded to Hilton Avenue for a water main break.
