Blaze Breaks Out Inside Garden City Doc's Office

A fire broke out inside a doctor's office on Washington Avenue in Garden City late Friday afternoon.

Garden City firefighters responded to 231 Washington Ave., the office of Dr. Xenophon Xenophontos, M.D., around 3:30 p.m. 

Approximately 20 people who were inside the vascular and endovascular surgeon's office had to evacuate, according to a witness at the scene. 

Firefighters had to break through the roof of the building to battle the blaze, which was placed under control by 3:45 p.m. The exterior of the building didn't appear to suffer much damage, according to the witness, but he said the inside was gutted.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
