Cops: Man Dies After Being Shot, Driving into Bleachers at Hempstead Middle School

The incident happened Tuesday night, cops said.

A man who called 911 to report a disturbance in a Hempstead neighborhood died after being shot and crashing his car Tuesday, according to Nassau County Police.

At 6:06 p.m., Jonathan Wade, 45, of Hempstead, was heading west on Albermarle Road when he witnessed an undisclosed disturbance, cops said. Wade called 911 before driving around the block to pass the scene of the incident, police said.

As he drove past, an unknown assailant fired several shots, striking Wade and his car, officials said.

Wade drove west to Henry Street before striking a chain link fence and slamming into the bleachers at Hempstead Middle School, cops said. He struck three youths, who were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Emergency responders rushed Wade to the hospital. He was pronounced deceased at 8:02 p.m. by a staff physician, cops said.
