Drunk Woman Crashed Into Tree With Her Kids In Car: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Oct. 19.

Oct. 12

• Officers arrested a 41-year-old man for trespassing in an apartment building. He was charged with criminal trespassing.
• A person’s identity was stolen and used to open an unauthorized bank account.
• Officers responded to Franklin Avenue and Stewart Avenue for a water line break.
• A company was cited for the operation of a truck on Washington Avenue with defective brakes and HazMat violations.
• Officers responded to the Cathedral Avenue crossing for a report of a railroad gate malfunction resulting in local traffic delays. It was determined the cause for the delays was a large work train moving slowly through the area.
• Firefighters and officers responded to a residence for a fire call and determined the cause to be burnt food.
• Firefighters and officers responded to Stewart Avenue for a dangerous condition where a PSEG support pole and wires were found in the roadway. The area was safeguarded until PSEG could respond and correct the condition.
• A driver on Jackson Street was charged with driving with a suspended license and non-transparent windows.

Oct. 13
• A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and non-operable headlights.
• Firefighters and officers responded to a residence for a carbon monoxide alarm; firefighters determined the cause to be a faulty battery.
• Firefighters and officers responded to Parking Field 7S for a fallen power line and determined it was a Verizon line. Verizon was notified.
• A driver on Pine Street was charged with driving with a suspended license, a suspended registration, and tinted windows.
• A driver on Rockaway Avenue at Stewart Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and obstructing traffic.

Oct. 14
• Money was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Wellington Road.
• Officers responded to Washington Avenue where a vehicle struck a tree. Upon investigation, officers arrested a 41-year-old woman for DWI. Due to the fact her two sons, ages 9 and 10, were in the vehicle, she was also charged with Leandra’s Law and two counts of acting in a manner dangerous to a child. There were no reported injuries.
• A victim’s identity was stolen and used to make several unauthorized purchases.
• Firefighters and officers responded to a residence for a gas odor. Firefighters determined the cause was a faulty HVAC unit and rendered the area safe.

Oct. 15
• Firefighters and officers responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined it was activated by excess cooking smoke.
• Officers investigated property thefts from two lockers at the Garden City Hotel’s Red Hots Spa.
• A driver on 7th Street was charged with driving with a suspended registration.
• A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license, a suspended registration, and speeding.

Oct. 16
• Officers responded to Rockaway Avenue for a suspicious vehicle stopped in the roadway and found the driver asleep with his foot on the brake and the vehicle in drive. An officer was able to carefully reach into the vehicle and place the transmission into the park position. Upon further investigation, the 21-year-old driver was arrested for DWI and impeding traffic.
• Officers provided traffic and safety details for the fire department’s Fire Prevention Day event.
• Graffiti was found on the door of a 7th Street store.
• A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended registration and excessive speed.
• A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended registration and excessive speed.

Oct. 17
• A resident’s identity was stolen and used to open an unauthorized bank account.
• A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and a suspended registration.
• Firefighters and officers responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined it was activated by ongoing construction.
• Firefighters and officers responded to Adelphi University for a fire alarm and determined it was activated by hairspray.
• Loose change was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Leffert’s Road. Two other vehicles were entered with no loss reported.

Oct. 18
• Firefighters and officers responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined it was activated by construction dust.
• Police personnel were assigned to traffic details at Stewart Avenue and Clinton Road due to a lengthy traffic light outage.
