Ed Mangano Must Start Prison Sentence Immediately: Court

A federal appellate court denied the ex-county executive's request to remain out on bail while appealing his conviction.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — A request to remain free on bail while appealing his conviction was denied, which means former Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano has to start his prison sentence immediately.

According to Newsday, a federal appellate court denied Mangano's request to remain free on bail. Now he must immediately surrender himself to federal prison in Devens, Massachusetts, to begin his 12-year prison sentence.

In addition to prison time, Mangano will also have to pay more than $10 million in restitution to two insurance companies that were financially injured by his corruption.
