Five Things You May Not Know About in Garden City
Business closings, a special village board meeting and a new tenant on Seventh Street?

There's always something going on in the village of Garden City but busy schedules may get in the way of keeping up with all the news. Here are five things you may not yet know about:
Things & Stuff Is Closing: Tuesday was an emotional day for local shoppers and Things & Stuff owners Dean and Teresa Adams as word spread of the gift shop's closing. A huge pink sign in the storefront's window reads, "Store Closing. Thanks For The Memories...We Bid You A Fond Farewell." For more on this, click here.
Special Village Board Meeting Friday: The village board will hold a special meeting in public on Friday beginning at 7:15 p.m. to consider and act upon the proposed retention of the law firm of Jones Day to represent and assist the village with respect to post trial litigation matter.
Riesterer's Card Shop Is Closed: Riesterer's Card Shop located at 98 Seventh Street is closed. All fixtures inside the store are for sale; call Karl at 485-0740 or 315-1312 if interested. The bakery, which is right next door, is still open for business.
New Tenant on Seventh? Rumor has it that a "national athletic footwear chain" may be coming to Garden City, according to John Wilton, chair of the Merchant Professional & Retailers group. The store could open in one of the empty storefronts on the ground level of the Almaviva, located at 191 Seventh Street at the corner of Seventh Street and Franklin Avenue. It would occupy 3,000 of the 15,000 square feet of retail space, according to Wilton.
The Patio Is Open: The Patio Bar at the Garden City Hotel is open Tuesday through Saturday between 4 and 10 p.m. Enjoy signature, after-work cocktails or small plates prepared by Michael Mandato and his culinary team. Thursday through Saturday, Chef Mandato offers a bonus grill menu that features sliders, grilled chicken wings and grilled little neck clams. For reservations, call 877-9385.
