Garden City District Names New Stewart School Principal
Keri Hand, the current assistant principal of the school, will take over leadership on July 1.

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City School District has appointed Keri Hand the new principal of Stewart School.
Hand is currently the assistant principal at the school, a position she has held for more than three years. As assistant principal, she has been a part of the administrative team, collaborating with the current principal, providing professional development opportunities and communicating with faculty, parents and the entire community. She has also assisted with district-wide work in the area of literacy and the multi-tiered system of supports for students.
Prior to becoming the assistant principal at Stewart School, Hand was a general education teacher at the school for 12 years. She received her bachelor’s degree in childhood and special education from St. John’s University and her master’s degree in educational leadership and technology from Adelphi University.

“It is a true honor to be appointed as the next principal of Stewart School,” said Hand. “Stewart is a special place filled with hardworking and caring students, dedicated professionals and supportive parents. I have been lucky to be a part of this community for many years and I look forward to continuing my journey here in this new capacity. I am excited to work together to uphold the mission and vision of Garden City as we encourage students to strive to be their personal best, fostering curiosity and creativity as they develop an enthusiasm for learning.”
Hand will take over as principal on July 1.

“We are so excited to see Ms. Hand step into this new role at Stewart School,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kusum Sinha. “She is no stranger to the building, or our Garden City school community. She has worked closely with Ms. Norton for the past two years in all aspects of Stewart School. She will continue to build a strong school community and take Stewart School to the next level of teaching and learning. I look forward to working with Ms. Hand in her new role.”
