
The Garden City High School field hockey team shut out Manhasset 1-0 Sunday to win the Conference I Nassau County championship.
After a scoreless first half, Melanie McHugh scored off an assist by Jackie Marino to give the Trojans the lead for good. Sabrina Milone made three saves to preserve the shutout win.
In their quest to the county championship game, the Trojans first had to beat North Shore, which they did 3-0. Michaela Smith scored the first goal, and McHugh added the second. Morgayne Rix scored on a rebound to give Garden City the victory
Up next, Garden City will face Miller Place in the Long Island final Wednesday at Dowling.
