Garden City PD Issue Hundreds Of Tickets During Enforcement Period

The department stepped up enforcement for the start of school, cracking down on unsafe drivers

GARDEN CITY, NY — With the start of the new school year last month, the Garden City Police Department started a back-to-school traffic initiative.

For the month of September, officers conducted stepped-up traffic enforcement around the village, with a concentrated effort around the schools, bus stops and routes used by student walkers.

Police officers issued hundreds of tickets during the month, many for speeding in school zones. The results from the enforcement were:

  • Excessive Speed in a School Zone: 170
  • Excessive Speed: 121
  • Passing Stop Signs/Red Traffic Lights: 36
  • Unsafe Lane Usage: 33
  • Driving with a Suspended/Revoked License: 31
  • Driving with a Suspended/Revoked Registration: 22
  • Disregarding Traffic Signs/Controls: 21
  • Distracted Driving (Cell Phone/Electronic Device): 15
  • Passing School Buses with Lights Activated: 4
  • Reckless Driving: 2
