Garden City Police Urges Safe Driving As Graduation Season Approaches
The department is taking part in the No Empty Chairs initiative next week.
GARDEN CITY, NY —The Garden City Police Department is participating next week in the No Empty Chair Program.
The campaign aims to raise awareness among teen drivers regarding the potential dangers of driving. The title refers to having "no empty chairs" at high school graduations or proms this year.
During the initiative, which runs from April 15-19, officers will be enforcing speeding in school zones, seatbelt usage, cell phone and texting, underage driving and passing school buses.

Additionally, Garden City Police Commissioner Kenneth Jackson said community policing officers will conduct outreach at the high school to encourage safe driving this graduation season.
