GC Police Assist at Hempstead Shooting Incident
Police units found five empty .380 caliber shell casings in the area.

Garden City police assisted Nassau County police units and Hempstead officers after shots rang out Friday night not too far from Meadow Street.
According to Nassau County Third Squad detectives, Hempstead police responded to a Shot Spotter activation in front of a Princeton Street home in Hempstead at approximately 9:11 p.m.
A 911 caller stated that a group of males involved in the incident may have run into the residence. As officers from the Nassau County Police Department's Special Operations and Emergency Services units arrived on scene, with assistance from Hempstead and Garden City police, officers surrounded the home and began interviewing five occupants inside.
According to Third Squad detectives, a disturbance ensued between the officers and the occupants. With consent given by the homeowner, Bureau of Special Operations officers searched the residence not knowing if the shooter(s) and/or victim(s) were inside.
Though the search of the home produced negative results, five empty .380 caliber shell casings were found in the area.
All five occupants were released without further incident. There were no injuries and the investigation is continuing, according to a county police report.
Detectives request anyone with information to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
